At Northern Flags, as a business, we have always been passionate about what we can do to minimise our impact on the environment. From adopting green business practices, running our building from 100% renewable energy and working with ethical and sustainable suppliers, we have put in place a number of measures over the years. As a manufacturer, a vital way of having a positive effect is by ensuring the products we provide efficiently conserve natural resources.
What is EnviroFlag™?
Made entirely from recycled plastic bottles, EnviroFlag™ is a 100% polyester fabric, which is ideal for uses such as flags, displays and exhibitions. With incredible dye sublimation print quality, colours are even more vivid and blacks deeper than ever. It is fire rated to B1 and M1 certification and importantly is completely PVC free! Each metre squared of EnviroFlag™ produced uses between ten and twelve plastic bottles, a great way of reusing plastic.
Why should you look for environmentally friendly flag material?
Much of the flag material currently available is made from knitted polyester, which requires petroleum in its production process. Given that petroleum is a liquid fossil fuel, with finite resources left, it’s important that it is conserved. That’s why using recycled plastic bottles to create flag material is much less harmful to the environment, and can give you the peace of mind that you are purchasing a green product.
How is EnviroFlag™ made?
Used plastic bottles are sorted, crushed and baled at the recycling centre. These bottles are then moved to a manufacturing plant, where the bales are separated. Once the baled bottles are separated, they’re then ground down into fine flakes. These flakes are then washed to remove any labels, bottle caps or excess fluid. The flakes are then turned into small plastic pellets by a vented extruder. The pellets are then melted down and spun into a polyester yarn. This yarn is then woven into our fantastic EnviroFlag™ material!
